Sunday Set-list #2 – Grace is Enough!

As I prayed through the songs for this weeks worship service, I really felt led to focus on who God is, and what He has done in our lives, and how His Grace is the reason we come to worship. Our Worship Set is as follows:

Call to Worship

“Come, Christians Join to Sing”

“We Bow Down”

“Your Grace is Enough”

“Grace Greater than Our Sin”

Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)

Sermon

Response & Invitation

“Come Just As You Are”

When I lead worship, I really strive to choose songs that lead in a direction. My goal this week was to start at the call to worship, coming to Christ- “Come, Christian’s Join to Sing Alleluia, Amen! Loud Praise to Christ our King Alleluia, Amen! Let all with heart and voice, before His throne recjoice, praise his is gracious choice Alleluia, Amen!” then singing about who God is and what He has done in our lives- “You are Lord of creation and Lord of my life, Lord of the land and the sea! You were Lord of the heavens before there was time, Lord of all lords You will be!” and praising Him for who He is and what He has done- “We bow down and we worship You, Lord!  Lord of all Lords You will be!”

The next worship set was all about God’s grace. I love going from that last chorus in “Your Grace is Enough” into the chorus of the hymn “Grace Greater Than Our Sin” – Your grace is enough! Your grace is enough! Your grace is enough for me!” — “Grace grace! God’s grace, grace that will pardon and cleanse within! Marvelous grace, infinite grace, grace that is greater than all our sin!”

WOW! Some great songs about Who God is and what He has done for us in our lives! I closed this “grace” set with one of my favorite hymns that has been updated by Chris Tomlin– “Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)” I love leading this song for three reasons. The first reason deals with my personal worship–what an awesome declaration in the chorus of how I am truly grateful that my chains are gone, and I’m free in Christ. The second reason deals with the corporate worship of the church. It never fails, we sing the first two verses of Amazing Grace, that everyone knows, then we hit the chorus. . .and boom! It hits people like a ton of bricks. . .wow. . .I truly am free in christ, and then I see people sing this chorus at the top of their lungs. It is such a blessing to see people connect with this song.

The third reason I love leading this song is the last verse. Most people don’t really know it because we are so accustomed to the last verse in the hymnal. . you know the one. . .”When we’ve been there ten thousand years. . .” yeah that one. Now don’t get me wrong, that is a great verse, but did you know that John Newton didn’t even write it!?!? That’s right, about 30-50 years later the verse we all know as the “last verse” was added to John Newton’s hymn from the final verse of an anonymous hymn‘Jerusalem, my happy home’ found in ‘A Collection of Sacred Ballads’. The original last verse as penned by Mr. Newton is this: “The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, the sun forbear to shine; but God, who called me here below, will be forever mine.” What an awesome verse to sing! The earth my fall apart, and everything may go dark and cold, but you know what? God you brought me to the place I am today. . will always be with me and protect me and love me! Awesome huh? I love singing that because it catches people of guard, and they are like. . woah. . that is the a cool NEW verse! I’m sure Mr. Newton is smiling up in heaven saying. . “PEOPLE! Old or New doesn’t matter. . just reflect on the one whom you sing of! GOD Who called you to this earth and Who is with you now!”

All in all, it was a great time of worship this morning. I am really enjoying doing this blog, because I’m able to express my thoughts and revelations that I have as I pick this music out with you. I hope you are enjoying it too. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think!  If you are enjoying this you can check more sunday setlist blogs over at the “Sunday Setlists” blog carnival at FredMcKinnon.Com that I’m participating in. You can check it out here.

One Response to “Sunday Set-list #2 – Grace is Enough!”

  1. We have yet to do Chris Tomlin’s version of Amazing Grace – our church really likes Mark Roach’s version. Love bringing back Twila Paris tunes – so simple yet powerful words!
